Ukraine

PurityWorks partners with the marvelous ministry of Music Mission Kiev in efforts to teach purity and to bring aid to orphans and others in Kiev and in a remote orphanage called Chrasni Hutor. The Princess and the Kiss has been translated into Russian and distributed in Ukraine through Music Mission Kiev.

Chrasni Hutor is an orphanage of about 150 children located in northern Ukraine near the Russian border. The three main buildings of the orphanage are over 100 years old, and plumbing is primitive, with a well, outhouses, and outdoor showers. One toilet and two showers were recently installed by Music Mission Kiev.

There is no foster care in Ukraine, and children can be dropped off at an orphanage if they are unwanted or if the family cannot provide for them (many Ukrainian families are very poor). At 15 or 16 the children are turned out of the orphanage. They have had some schooling, but are pitifully unequipped for securing jobs or renting apartments. Over 60% of these young people turn to alcoholism, crime or prostitution. Music Mission Kiev seeks to help some of these "graduate orphans" with training that will help them lead productive lives.

PurityWorks makes ongoing trips to share stories, teach, and build friendships with the children of Chrasni Hutor, encouraging them and training them in basic knowledge of their bodies and an understanding of sexuality. Many of the children there have been abused, and others desperately need guidance in matters of sexual health, menstruation and the like.

PurityWorks also hosts seminars for training in Kiev. Many adults had no moral training under the Communist regime and are trying to return to these values now that they are free to do so. The hunger to learn methods of sexual purity is deep, and the response to these meetings is strong. A recent conference with the Almaz church yielded 85 attendees, when only 50 were expected.

Nigeria

PurityWorks partnered with In-His-Grace Ministries and Campus Crusade in a March 2007 effort to the people of Jos, Abuja and Lagos in Nigeria. Jennie shared the Planned Purity message during women’s conferences where Randy served as worship leader. Jennie also shared Planned Purity with the seminarians at a Catholic seminary in Jos, visited women in an AIDS home who had already been using The Princess and the Kiss for study, and shared stories in a Nigerian orphanage.
